Our unique 2-step system

Hormonal changes during pregnancy can lead to some women experiencing thicker, longer hair, as with pregnancy comes increased oestrogen levels in the body. This causes the hair follicles to produce less sebum (oil), so hair is dryer at the roots; as a result this can help hair appear fuller and thicker as it will naturally have more lift and body, but it will require more hydration. It also causes your hair to stay in the ‘growing stage’ of the growth cycle while you are pregnant retaining the hairs on your head for longer.

With Oestrogen levels returning to normal after birth so will the growth cycle, and hair that was sitting in the growing stage during pregnancy, will suddenly shift into the ‘shedding stage’ resulting in excess hair fall. Stimulating the scalp at this point will help follicles grow stronger and healthier new hair. In addition, the skin can become more permeable, meaning substances applied to the skin, including the scalp, can be absorbed into the bloodstream, which is why it's crucial to choose haircare products with safe ingredients that won't introduce harmful chemicals into the mother's system.

As a baby develops in the womb or during breastfeeding, they are exposed to the substances present in the mother's bloodstream, including any potentially harmful chemicals. Safe haircare products ensure that the baby is not exposed to unnecessary risks during these crucial stages of development.

The carefully formulated, and obstetrician approved, vegan WeKind products, which are free from Parabens, Phthalates, Sulphates, Silicones and Mineral Oils are safe for use during pregnancy, as well as while nursing, and are engineered to add moisture and strengthen hair follicles at a time when the hair is going through significant changes due to hormonal fluctuations.

WeKind founder Kelly says: “It is widely known that there are certain foods to avoid during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but when it comes to the beauty products we use every day there is much less awareness.

“You have so much to think about when you fall pregnant and even more when you have had your baby, which is why the unique two-step system has been designed to meet the varying haircare demands of pregnant and new mothers, so you don’t have to worry about whether your hair is receiving the care it needs.”
